i went to kay's parent teacher night last night ... gotto love those right... anyway i only had two teachers to see and Kay was my trusted companion... so there we sat in the one class with this teacher i don't like at all... had a bit of a problem with her last year, long story... sorted out after batman went to see the principal... anyway... so last night we were sitting down for a little heart to heart with this teacher... and i swear she was drunk as a skunk...
i know!
how odd!
now what am i supposed to do? she ponged like a freakin brewery... and the whole time i was thinking...
is this garlic?
NO!
is this just the breath~of~the~dead....
NO!
and she had the half lid slurry thing going...
i kid you not...
so i was thinking about this the whole evening and in passing i asked Kay, did teacher X smell a little bit funny to you?
yes mom she did smell... do you think she was drunk?
fuck... i thought i was exaggerating...
now what? do i get her fired? do i tell one of her teacher friends so that they can get help for her? this could crash her whole career! we all have our problems and if somebody can just help her... it's not like she's putting my kid in danger being snotters but obviously it's not on.... so what the fuck do i do?? say oops and forget about it?

Eep Sweets, that sounds like quite a tricky situation to be in and I will be wishing you all the strength with whatever decision you make ... because I sure as hell wouldn't know what to do either. Sheesh.
Wow, that is a bit akward. I also don't know what I would do or what your should do. But I do know you can't just leave it. The woman needs help. Heck I don't knoe!
Presumably the principal is a decent bloke / dame. It is their staff member and their decision.
I would definitely mention it to the principal. Request anonyminity (for the sake of your kid) and let him/her deal with it appropriately. I really really doubt she'd be fired. At worst a warning - it's not easy to fire someone! I reckon it would be addressed however and that's NB!
I am with Caz - you need to mention it to someone.. its not like you are walking into his/her office demanding her to be fired or something.. but if you noticed then so did others.. I think the decent thing to do would be tell someone who can help her (she may be going through a tough time for personal reasons..)
She may just need someone right now.. and since you have HISTORY with her.. she wont respond to you .. but the headmaster will have a better relationship with her..
Tough one..all the same...
philly... i hate this! but i just can't keep quiet can i... why me!!!!!
jane... awkward is the perfect description, eish :)
caz... but i'm so scared that i'm wrong, but i'm not! oh man...
bic... yes tough, nobody is perfect and even tho i don't like her, she needs help but i don't want her to lose her job or anything! so i think that's why i'm so scared to say anything, i don't want to have that on my conscience...
please don't ignore it... it is kak- but you are very likely not the only one who noticed.
and if she is drinking it could well be why kay has a "problem" with her class.
and she is in charge of the kids when they're with her- so she is endangering them if she's drinking on duty.
I'm with Angel on this, hun. You and Kay both smelled something, and you can't ignore it. Ask for a private meeting with the principal. Or even one of the teachers that you have a good relationship with.
In fact, that's probably what I would do. I would have a chat with one of the teachers that I have a good relationship with, as they would have daily contact with her, which you don't. Make sure it's someone you can trust, and someone who you know would make the right decision. If the drinking doesn't stop, then you and this teacher can go to the principal together, and take it from there.
She is entrusted with your kid's welfare after all....you wouldn't leave your kids with an alcoholic, so don't leave them with a potential alcoholic.
hmmm...tricky one my sweet friend. I guess if i were in your situation i would organize a meeting...saying that there is something you want to talk to her about regarding Kay. And then tell her that you couldn't help but notice that she wasn't entirely all there the previous meeting. See how she reacts and base your decision on what to do on that. good luck!!!!
I wouldn't tell anyone! Maybe it's just because of the PTA to help get through talking to all the parents.....I highly doubt she drinks during the day, and would not tell on her, maybe she was having a bad day, lots of people are really stressed this year, I'd forget about it if it's a once off, ask your son if he's noticed it before, if so then think of doing something otherwise shame you don't know the circumstances....
It was in the evening and she probably need a few glasses of wine to get through the banality that is a teacher parent conference.
Maybe you should drop it for now unless it has direct impact on your kids learning or if she's like drunk in class all the time.
maybe have a word with her first before doing anythign too drastic. Jobs are hard to come by these days.

Omigod. No idea.
On one hand you want to protect your kid but on the other hand you don't want to get some woman fired!
Kay hasn't mentioned her being like that during the day at school has he? I suppose that the worrying idea is that she actaully has a proper drinking problem and drinks at school!
I wouldn't know what to do :(
On the one hand she may have a huge fear of awful parent teacher meetings and had a few or, even less sinister, she may have been to a cocktail party earlier. On the other hand she may have a problem and I think anyone that can't stay sober for something where it could seriously affect her job may also do her drinking while she is doing her job. I might mention it quietly to the principal. Who wants their children being taught by and in the care of someone who is stonking drunk?
I would ask one of the other parents first. Possibly someone else noticed it too?
I have to agree with Leez, what if this was just a once off thing and your complaint started off a terrible string of false impressions?
Tough call to make. Think it through, carefully, whatever you do ...
Tough call, I'm not sure what I would do
I say invite the lush over for drinks and when she passes out shave her head.
Hmmmm... toughie. If it happens again then anonymously tip the principal.
How about that?
WOAH!!!!! YOU ARE KIDDING ME!! I CANNOT ACTUALLY BELIEVE IT!
GET THE BITCH FIRED...DOES SHE HONESTLY THINK SHE CAN TEACH KIDS OR BE RESPONSIBLE AROUND KIDS WHEN SHE'S PISSED?
I THINK NOT!!
Not the heck. If she drunk before parent/teacher meetings, she probably drinks when she is teaching. Sorry, but that is NOT acceptable.
This is so awesome! Both Jason and Tommie couldn't see her change the other way. Both Quintus and I could.
