sometimes

sometimes i'm sickened by our world...unfortunately only sometimes.
but like everybody else i see what's happening in the world, the genocide, the "democracy" fought for by "freedom fighters", some of the soldiers the age of my own two boys... and i turn away to go on with my own life...
i am blessed to live in a country where i can say and do pretty much anything i want to... i am safe... mostly... but i am also free...
we have achieved the democracy that many african countries claim to want and for that i am grateful, but i also know that on our road to freedom we were also puppets and maybe still are... and that... scares me...so i turn my head away and protect what is mine... i'm informed, conscience of others suffering... but that's about it... doesn't go any further than that.... so what... what is the purpose of building "awareness"... when it seems all the powerful nations in our world must also be "aware" of what is happening to millions of innocent people... and yet they don't do a thing to change it.
i don't know what's wrong with me but i keep missing unbelievable movies that's been released years ago... where was I?... i have no clue... i saw Lord of War today... brilliant movie, not because of anything else but the simple fact that it shows how absolutely evil human kind can be...

so, like the rest of the world, i resign myself that there is nothing much i can personally do to change the world, except maybe sign a petition here or there or stick a bumper sticker on my car... would i feel better if i did that?... did i save anybody's life by doing that?...no.

ag i dunno, the movie just made quite an impression on me. if i was living in liberia or someplace i would hope and pray someone would do something. everybody is so "aware" but nobody is doing shit.

Is that the one where he is the arms trader?
You say how is the world aware and still do nothing. I don't know if you see any news from over here but the reason nobody does anything is because very few have the will to put their legacy out there and to take the heat that the weak assed, panty waist sissies in the world will make them tolerate. The Iraq war freed millions of people from a sadist tyrant and everyday the stupid assed liberals here give the pres. shit about doing it and about being in it. The whole pres race here is going to come down to the war. Had Bush not had the will and conviction to not give a fuck what the cany ased 1/2 of this country and the better part of the rest of the world thought Saddam would still be in power and still be holding those folks down.
Thats the reason. People in free and secure places don't/can't understand how bad it is in those places that are ruled by dictators that treat the people under their control harshly.

sage... i must admit i don't know much about US politics... i hear what you are saying but i'm sure there will be those who disagree. like i said to bridget the movie just made such an impression on me and i just thought out loud, maybe not such a clever thing to do ;-)

No I wasn't being critical I was just splainin it. The media here and about 1/2 the people are pussies. If you go back through history the US has fought and won against every tyrant in its short history. All the big wars we won. But today the other countries that could help won't because they are all afraid. We don't want to be the world police but nobody else would do it. Thats why the things happen like Darfour and the other mass slaughters around the world, we stopped them in Iraq and in many other places, either by force or by boycots etc. often with no other countries helping. Anyway thats the facts.

I have fokol to say about the US and their 'soapie'.. politics I mean.

Boet, I hear you.. Anyone that's been born and bread here in SA, honestly do not appreciate it. I'm a white 23 year old that walks these streets daily.

I appreciate that we're not a Kenya, however, I still want to be a Sweeden. I strive for better, i know that I could be content.. but i'm not.

Africa is a doomed continent. The end.

i'm going to resist the temptation to go off on a political tirade... and comment on how awesome that movie was! i've seen it twice and both times i was quite stunned by people's brutality and how realistic the movie was when you compare it to our little world!
