I'm a selfish bitch...
yes... that's what i am...
I've dealt with it, have you?
sigh... being the pleaser that i am; that was such a difficult statement to make... i had to force my cold little fingers to type it... that's how bad i am... but I've come to accept that when i blog... i inevitably write stuff about myself... cause what the hell else am i supposed to do??... dangle over my neighbour's wall and check out what she's up to and then tell you about it?... nah... didn't think so... so as i was lying in bed last night... puffy eyed and depressed.... in insomniac hell, twiddling my thumbs and thinking ...
what the fuck am i going to blog about tomorrow??...
and all i could think about was... i wonder how many times i use the word I in a post?...
honestly...
16 times so far ;) see selfish right there... who else use that word so many times in a piece of writing....!!!
oh the shame...
that is SO selfish!... and I'm NOT selfish... but i guess i am after all... which shocked me even more... blogging is so strange that way... don't know how this crazy blog world even started, but I'm sure that guy had NO clue how popular it would turn out to be... i mean, honestly... to give any random person a little soap box to shout his truths out into the world is just many people's idea of a perfect world... right? ... another strange fact that i read so many blogs myself... I'm addicted... i have to get my fix... and my fix is taking up more and more of my time... so I've cut down... i don't' buy airtime to get Internet access anymore at home... it was horrible at first... I'm sure i had withdrawal symptoms, kept on looking over to the pc hoping... but i stuck it out... now i do normal person stuff at night... i TALK to my kids, i LAUGH with my kids... ok i LAUGH at the tv too... i READ actual books... all my socks are neatly rolled into little bundles... my dishes are done ... my fish have a clean tank... see very good thing i stopped going online at night... cause just now i didn't have a real life after all ... argh
21 COMMENTS....bite me!:
woohoo! i'm first again!!
blogging is selfish, i agree- it is all about me and i am my most important reader!
but life does interfere with life and vice versa...
yip...blogging is selfish. lol
hmmmm.......maybe you should rather think of your blog as a sound board....rather than a place that you can be selfish at?? but at the end of they day the blog is always about us and our needs...so it is selfish in a way i guess:)
Personally, I think blogging is self-involved and egotistical, rather than selfish. Unless, of course, you are blogging at someone else's expense.
And it's odd, because even though I try and make my blog about Jackson, I STILL refer to it as MY blog, and very often it is all about me.
Do you think that blogging is so important to us because we work in small offices? I spend most of the day on my own at work, so my online world is very important to me, it kind of gets me through the day if you know what I mean.
And I agree completely with you about not turning the computer on in the evening, I try and stick to that too otherwise I'd spend 80 per cent of my awake time with my computer. Which is bloody scary.
I have to agree with the others. It really does depend on *why* you're blogging. Yours, like a lot of ours is more like what you might write in a paper-based diary. But instead you let the thoughts swirling in your head out online and into a public place. I don't think it's selfish. You could just as easily have some other sort of blog that wasn't you-based. But I still think every blog is a labour of love, all about something *important to the writer*, something the writer feels passionately about ...
You might equally argue that you're not selfish at all, sharing your experiences with others can easily make people feel better about themselves, reading about someone who might be feeling / going thru something similar to them.
So keep up the good work :)
COME ON GIRLS... WE ARE ALL SELFISH AND I'M THE ONLY ONE THAT WILL ADMIT IT! HEHE JUST KIDDING!!!
angel: yeah! it's all about us babe :)
mom: oh the shame... :)~
ruby: that's just like wrapping a package up in different wrapping paper... it's selfish... it is... BUT HEY THAT'S COOL TOO!!!
jacks: you're right... because of our small office syndrome we don't have a choice... it's a life saver! so it's cool :)
philly: thanks doll... you all have good insight, that's for sure!... i was just rambling on cause i had nothing to blog about... LOL
Ah who cares if its selfish, not like you are doing anyone any harm!
Pol x
OMG I have really thought about that a few times. And I SO agree. Whenever I write a moany entry I think: 'Wow - this will sound SO self centered'. haha
BTW did you use sleepyjanes@gmail.com when you sent the email? I haven't gotten it yet.
Hahaha! Of course blogging is selfish in a way. But think about it - your viewpoint is the only one you have. So, technically, we'll always be selfish in whatever we do, because we can only frame things in reference to ourselves.
I'm blatant about the fact that blogging is nmy therapy. If someone reckons my blog is self-centered, good for them. They can go read someone else's or write their own selfish posts ;-)
pol: agreed!
jane: i'm trying really hard to get over myself :)
tam: i agree, blogging is my therapy too... AND it works... oh... and it's free :)
Dude of course our blogs our selfish. We sit there talking about ourselves and hope that people read it or comment and then some of us get miffed when people don't agree with us. Fully selfish!
But not in a bad way ... If you were writing a blog about sport and you kept constantly referring to yourself then yes that would be selfish in a bad way but considering that your blog is about you then there is nothing wrong with it!
;)
Well first of all, since we're all bloggers commenting here, the chances of a really objective answer is absolutely zilch, because we all do exactly the same thing!!
But - who cares if its selfish, you're not forcing anyone to read it, yet day after day we're all back reading the latest post. Just because it's about you doesn't make in uninteresting!
blogging may seem selfish but it helps to hear that other people's lives are just as complicated, confused, funny, dull or exciting as one's own. Keep writing about yourself, who else do you know as well?
I don't agree that blogging is selfish, as selfish by definition means you are concerned only with yourself to the exclusion of others. In this community, we love to involve others in our blogs (hello comment sluts), so that shoe doesn't fit! Self-involved, maybe. Not selfish though.
And whoever said having your own personal space for expression was selfish anyway?!?!
Sweets, use "I" 27 times in one paragraph if you like, we'll only love you for it.
It's alright to be selfish. After all a person's blog is for themselves first and foremost.
Wow, um, OK...if you're selfish then I'm completely in the same boat. The thing is, my blog isn't about my neighbours or my friends or SA or anything like that...my blog (like yours) is personal and allows me to talk about what happens to me and what my experiences are.
See what I did there? I just made my comment completely selfish and spoke about me,myself and I...now you don't have to feel bad about being selfish!!
WAHAHAHAHA!!
ON A SERIOUS NOTE, PLEASE DON'T CHANGE YOUR BLOG...I READ IT EVERY DAY!!
Blogging is like a diary entry. Only, if you chose, it is public. It's a stress reliever. It can be a form of creative outlet. It can be world issues. Some people use blogging to practice their writing skills and choose to write is about themselves, because... they know themselves the best.
I don't know. I don't see it as selfish. I just see it as a form of outlet and a narrative of your life.
I have actually found out a lot about myself whilst blogging..
which is basically mental masturbation.
However what I enjoy even more is finding out all sorts of things about all of these incredibly smart, witty, free thinking people out here...seriously what an "I'-opener to discover a whole other world of writers that are as clever as the paid performers in magazines...with an extra touch..it's the commenting and the ability to interact and get instant feedback with a real
live person OR their fabricated cyber entity which is also far f*ckin out..sorry but I'm trying to use that old 60s phrase in a sentence every day..anyway..where was I?
BUT it makes all the difference in the world to be able to have meaningful or frivolous intercourse with so many people from all over the world!
How cool is that?
You are not selfish..this is the greatest form of mass communication that has ever been devised!
i'm sorry... i had a personal reply to each and every one of you and then the power cut... argh
sorry
special hi to donn and charmskool... :)
I HATE when that happens!
where's my special hi?
Hahahahahaha!!!
