Monday...

i know... nobody said raising kids would be easy but nobody ever told me it was going to be this hard... ffs... i nearly had a heart attack this morning... why? ... come to think of it i don't really know.... it just kind of gets to me after morning number 975 i still have to practically yank my kids out of bed every morning... argh... is it normal to have a pain in your chest?... my blood pressure still hasn't normalised... i never new i had a vein in my forehead that throbbed when I'm out of control... so let's just say this fucking week didn't start too well... things will have to change, and quickly... i don't want the welfare department knocking on my door one day soon...

ok other news... kay's shrink wants to put him on Concerta, it's the new type of Ritalin... i honestly didn't see that one coming... sigh... and i feel like i failed him somehow... and on the one hand I'm slightly rebellious about this... now i should give consent to put my son on schedule 6 medicines... *screaming in my head*... am i the only one to find this difficult to do? give him mind altering drugs to stabilize his concentration levels... fuck I'm having such a hard time dealing with this... I'll have to do this, i know i will, but for some reason i don't want to...

i had the weekend off... watched too many dvd's... hated the following movies... 27 dresses and ps i love you... honestly stupid movies... enjoyed the Jane Austin book club and The Bucket list... then the lesbian neighbours almost burnt their house down... hehe... it's not funny i know... but that nagging doubts you get when you leave your house and you wonder... did i put the stove off?... rather go check next time... that' s what I've learnt :)

You really shouldn't feel in any way responsible - but if you're wanting to rebel - maybe a second opinion would make you feel a little bit more comfortable with the decision?

And I loved The Bucket List too - I just thought the whole message was fantastic - and Jack and Morgan were so completely convincing.

god it's hard being a parent, hey? In my incredibly limited experience, I would say try it with Kay and if it doesn't work, look around and try something else.

There's all that stuff about diet and concentration etc, but you really have to be a food facist to do it properly.

I enjoyed 27 Dresses, but I think that is the soppy romantic in me.

aw sweets, please don't feel bad about not wanting the meds for k. damien has been medicated for almost 5 years and i still hope that by some miracle he won't need it anymore when we go an see his doc every month.
and i know no one can make you feel better about it until you see the results yourself.
my 2c...? damien on and off meds is the same person- to totally over simplify it: he just giggles more and speaks louder when he doesn't take his meds. it has never affected his artistic talent or his creativity or his ability to throw a tantrum when he can't have what he wants.
i'm sorry this morning was a disaster...
~~hugs!!

msmozi: this is the 3rd opinion... i should really get the message :) aw man i loved that movie...i cried like a girl :)

jacks: i know i owe it to him to at least try it... but it's so hard for some reason!

i don't like izzy that's why i didn't like the movie... i'm a hopeless romantic too!

I am sorry.. I know how you feel.. I just think my children are out to get me.. I once considered that their dad gives them instructions to torture me .. but then thought better of it because he isnt smart enough for that..

As for the concerta choice.. well.. it is a tough one.. but what is the alternative?? My eldest is on Ritalin.. and this was a tough choice.. But I have never looked back.. He has come leaps and bounds in school.. But not an easy thing to do..

((HUGS ALL ROUND))

BTW -I thought 27 dresses was a very nice and easy movie to watch..

surely dont blame urself for anything.
Best I can tell parenting is me learning every bit as much as them learning. So everybody messes up and everybody has to adapt.
I dunno about the meds, I'm with whoever said second opinion, maybe even some natural solution, organic I reckon they call it.
I never even heard of any of those movies either????

your week will get better!!!

I also watched The Bucket List this weekend. Great film. I also liked PS I Love You...how can you NOT like that? LOL The movie has a great soundtrack you have to agree.... :)

And I agree for a second opinion if you're havimng such strong doubts.

bic: LOL... i'm going to be positive and believe it's the best thing for him... i can always take him off the meds if neccesary...

27 dress... argh... i don't like izzy... i'm stupid that way :) the story was predictable but sweet...

sage: organic... that's so difficult! you don't watch many movies do you?! hope you have a great week too!!

jane: ps i love you was totally too depressing for me!... the irish guy was so delicious tho, it should be illegal to have an accent and a face like that!!! but hilary swank was disappointing... just call me barry... barry ronge :)

I would find it hard to put any of my boys on schedule 6 meds as well. However, we have to trust the professionals. If you don't, you could always get a second opinion.

That is a hard decision :( What about a second opinion from a different shrink?

I wish I could concentrate on a movie right now... My attention span is ruined!

Okay - have to add my two cents:

Another VERY effective thing to consider is a homoeopathic remedy called Bacopa. It comes in a bottle of 60 tablets and is only available through practitioners. You can expect to pay about R230 for the bottle but it is SO worth it for his concentration.

concerta? never even heard of it...

how is it different from ridilin?

It's not your fault so you can quit blaming yourself.

mommy: this is my third opinion, so i'd better start listening i suppose :)

pdx: on it!

m@tt! wow dude... ok... go take your pill or go visit your dungeon, you've never had a problem with concentration in that department :)~

shebee: ok i;ll look into it... tx doll face :)

slyde: ritalin you have to take twice a day if i understand it correctly, with concerta it's once a day, longer lasting... argh

evyl: you're such a guy :)~
