are you offended yet?

i have this teeny tiny pet peeve... and i know some of the blogs i read do exactly what i hate... so just tell me why, then maybe I'll get it...

some of you have your comments saved for the blog owner's approval... this is something i just

do

not

get

there is something to be said about being spontaneous dear fellow bloggers... don't be a scary cat... let the comments flow man... i promise you nobody is going to tell you that you are in fact the worst blogger in the world... sometimes there is a great rhythm going in the comments... and it doesn't even have anything to do with the blogger... it's like a mini chat room... and it's fun... so why are you spoiling my fun hey???? so strange... so tell me, why do you do it?

why?
why?
huh?
why??

and please those of you who do this... don't take offence ok... i'm just asking... like me, there are loads of great bloggers out there, that don't leave hateful, disgusting comments on a daily basis...

if you want a big girl panty just ask me to send you one...

it's...

erm...

quite liberating :)~
ps: it's not that i'm not reading any blogs, i am trying so damn hard to, you have absolutely no clue...but my connection speed is just enough to drive me batty... so apologies all around...

22 COMMENTS....bite me!:

i'm not sure why... i spose if you've had nasty stalker types it might make you lary of waving them completely open?

It's all about control. Some people don't want sharp toys in their sandpit.

Maybe it's for that spate of offense comments that have been left by some "Anon" commenters on some blogs...? I also don't really know?

I moderate now because in the beginning i didnt.. and some old nasty I knew who found me threw up all over my blog and this must never be repeated..People know I blog.,.. and I ruffle many many feathers.. and somethings are best moderated.. I am sorry this frustrates but what can i do? ALL THE EVIL CHARACTERS in my lifestory read my blog..in fact they devour every word.. Do I really want to allow them free reign on my domain?

Maybe when I am less vulnerable to things and able to ignore their hurtfulness I will no longer moderate.. but for now.. its all about self preservation..

make sense yet?

tjomma...i guess... but the nasties never stick around do they? i would just delete comments i really don't like...

kyk... well if you can't stand sand in your shoes...

kitty... just delete them, but i guess i don't really know what i'm talking about, haven't had any nasty comments yet:)

bic... hmmmmm ok you're excused :) i still comment on blogs that moderate, so i still heart you see!!!???

sounds to me like you have too much time on your hands!

Personally I hate the word verification and only open ID options. Sometimes I'm not signed in to WP!! Then I can't leave a comment because I refuse to type something twice! ;)

"Relax, take it eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaassssssssssssyyyyy!" :)

I'm with you on this one...also with SleepyJane on the word verifcation...i hate word verification! I had one that almost spelt toilet once!

I agree. I don't like comment moderation either. Not at all. And that's all I have to say really.

Shouldn't that be batty-er??
hehe

I am with your Sweet one, I don't understand, whats worse you might ask??

Moderation+ verification+ private!
all in one??

I wonder if they were a condom when they blog too!

oh. i don't like that either. But again, those who get their comments saved first have already experienced such an unpleasant comment.

Hehehe... you're the second person to write a post like this. Slyde did it too. It made me take word verification off and I haven't seen any negative effects of that.

I don't really like it either but some people just don't like the idea of people being able to write anything on their blog I suppose.

Especially if your thoughts differ from the reader or the blogger?

Eh who knows!

The reason why i do it is merely so i know when i have comments. Otherwise how do you know if someone commented on an old post? I love getting the little popup saying "1comment" it makes me so happy.

loser i know, but we need these things to get us throught the day :)

I tried that after I got spammed a few times with comments that went on and on..you could scroll down about three full pages..very annoying.

I decided to take the offensive and threatened the perps (and I am still watching both of them) with hopping on a plane and personally delivering a Kaiser Soze (The Usual Suspects?) type revenge that would wipe out any trace of their existance, gene pool, friends, pets, everything.

I think that I got through to them but you can never tell out here..
more nuts than a fruitcake.

Different people moderate for different reasons. I've gone back and forth with it.

My biggest concern is that certain aspects of my life (and I can imagine this is true of every blogger) I keep private. This mainly has to do with protecting people around me in my daily life. It's fine for me to blog about myself, but I don't think it's ok to openly blog about people who happen to be involved with my day/daze. Sure I could keep it safe, but that limits my writing and I prefer to just leave something out rather than censor what I say.

So with this in mind I have to be alert to comments that disclose information that I would not normally disclose on my blog. I've only had a couple of cases of this. One example was a person I know basically telling me how everything has been going and disclosing a lot of personal information about people we both know. While the people mentioned may not have minded, that is not my call to make, so I had to remove it. Basically I filter stuff out that should be sent to me in an email.

But as far as other stuff, I'm open to anything. People can tell me that they hate or love what I write. They can tell me I'm a genius or a complete idiot. The only stuff that annoys me slightly are comments that don't really say anything, but those are fine too.

I have times where I can't look at my blog for a long period of time so leaving comments completely open has not been the best solution. I've also moderated all comments and that seems to annoy people even though I don't actually get a lot of comments to begin with. So I've been trying out Bloggers feature of only moderating comments on posts that are older than 30 days and that has worked so far.

I really hope blogger will add features to the comment system like allowing unmoderated comments by user. I really don't even care about the spam too much because I can always delete that stuff later.

Not my thing either - hell if someone takes issue with something I write and wants to tune me, bring it on! But it's only happened once, and it wasn't that offensive in the end.

But I do understand some people's reasons for doing it.

Here's what I think: your blog is YOURS. You can do with it what you will - be as open or not as you like. If comment moderation works for what you want from your blog, then good for you. If not, then bring on the bitching!

P.S. HATE word verification - everyone should take it off!

Sass said...

I had comment moderation for like...3 minutes when I first started.

Then I had the word verification for like...3 weeks (or longer).

Now I just realize that word verification isn't going to stop an ass from commenting like an ass.

There's always delete if I don't like what someone says. ;)

They do it just in case I visit.

i could never understand the moderate thing either..

unless you are getting some pretty seriously fucked up comments (regularly), it just doesnt seem worth the trouble..

Po - but don't you get email notifications when someone comments? I do, even on an older post.
And for everyone else, yes, if you don't like a comment, you can always delete it.
