failure to launch

oh my fcuk... i just hate bloody facebook... i've tried... i really have... but to be honest it's not working for me... why??

i don't have the faintest but there it is... i'm admitting defeat...

sigh

how people can spend hours on facebook i honestly... smack me silly... just don't get! i have this nagging feeling that i'm missing something that everybody else is getting but... that's just how it is...

recently i was complaining to an old friend of mine about not seeing her often enough and her solution is... are you on facebook?? as if that is that answer to world peace!... but is that a good enough substitute for actual friendship... hell no! i have online friends... people that i will never see or never meet... and that's cool i have contact with them on facebook and with blogging ... but my real life friends... don't expect me to catch up with you on bloody facebook... how absolutely random is that??

so to my facebook friends... firstly thank you for your patience... i do send cards and stickers and stuff your way... i'm slow ... i know i am... it even takes a while to register that i have something new to accept... oy, for some reason i find this whole thing very embarrassing... then there's the friends issue... i only have 24 friends... some people have literally hundreds... wtf is that all about??? i find facebook such a strange medium, it's totally odd and totally useful and totally useless all at the same time...

bottom line: i won't cancel facebook but it's really not blowing my hair back... because:

  1. i have no clue how to cancel my profile :)

  2. i have found some people out of my deep dark past that is very very cool, so for that i have to give facebook a cheer...

but spending hours on facebook...

not... likely :)

I am so with you, i emailed all my contacts with my email address, cancelled my account and got the hell out of there.
So nice to be free of people sending me drinks and trying to "bite" me!

I also don't get it. I visit my facebook account about once a week.
I ignore or accept friend invitations but ALWAYS ignore all the other crap!

I think it has it's uses - but to spend hours a day on Facebook is strange. I honestly don't even know how one does it!

See I love Facebook because I can catch up with my friends in SA and follow their life even though I'm in London.

I also love it for the photos and just knowing what is going on. I suppose that if I was in CT I wouldn't enjoy facebook that much ...

I have 402 friends. Is that a lot? I've found it fantastic for getting back in contact with school friends and finding out what they're doing with their lives.

Personally I love facebook!

Yeah, I'm also not all hyped up on facebook. I log on and check messages and all that but I'm not on there 24/7. Too sorry to cancel it though. Myspace is even worse. I should delete my acc. :)

i never did the myspace thing, and i only joined facebook when i worked out how to make my profile totally private... which kinda defeats the object i think...
anyhoodle- i use it to keep contact with non-blogger friends, and i have hooked up with some of the glugster's family there too, so i am getting to know them a bit better in a "fun" way.
its actually surprising how much you can tell about a person from their profile!
i have 68 friends i think- all are either bloggers or people i know in real life. no strangers.
i pop in once or twice a day to return pokes and play with my dragon. and if i receive a waterglobe or growinggift or something i send a bundle of them out again... but i do not accept a lot of the applications i receive invites for.
i do like the statuses though- those are fun to see first thing in the morning!

I also have a lot of "friends" on facebook, but that's because most of the moms on a forum are on there too, and I'm linked to most of them.
I really don't spend much time on the site anymore, only to play the off scramble game. It's a bit of a waste for me. My family use it to show off their photos though, so I check up on them there.

i think the first real sign that i am getting old, is that i totally dont get the myspace/facebook phenomena at all....

at some friends urging, i FINALLY made a myspace/facebook page for myself last month.. i havent logged in since...

Am I the only one that's not a member of fb and never has been?!

Agreed sweets - I think Facebook's days are numbered and the hype has definitely died down substantially. In fact, I think most of the hype has only been kept allowed by offices banning it, thus making it more desirable!

Well as I have already told you, I am FABULOUS at FB!

FABULOUS!

2000 messages and counting!

I did not get Facebook at ALL. Had it for a LONG time before it started to make any sense at all. I think in a way it's keeping contact...just letting someone know you are thinking of them...or reading what they are up to at that moment but that's it. It took me long to even just realize that lol

I have to be honest, I love Facebook too. Ive managed to get in touch with friends that I lost contact with when I used to live overseas, and I keep in touch with other friends who have moved away.
Also, like Miss M said, I love the photo part...esp seeing as Im Happy Snapper... I take waaaay to many pictures, at the moment I have 75 photo albums!! I know I know.

But yeah, I guess Im a bit of a Facebook whore sometimes...not badly though. I hate all those applications! Bladdy hell!

I now think that people just thinkg "it's cool" to not like facebook. I just enjoy it - I don't get the hype surrounding it but still love it.

Can sit for hours sifting through my friends photos and I manage to keep up to date with all my friends lives which is GREAT

I think for bloggers it's quiet understandable why they don't spend too much time on FB.... bcos they have to update their blogs etc...

But for non-bloggers, i also really do not know why one would spend the whole say, never mind more than an hour on FB... I MEAN even if one does not have a life, but there are other things one can do to kill time.

I am not a huge fan of FB or MySpace, or any social network sites like that, i prefer face-to-face.

And to be honest i just joined because most of my friends and lost ones, encouraged me to.
